Pointers for our Reflection for the Season of Lent

From the Office of the Rector

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Seminary

Dear Batang Carmelo,

As we enter into the Lenten Season, let us take a moment to reflect on the profound theme of "VINCULUM CARITATIS" (Chain of Love). This concept serves as a reminder of the bond of love that connects us all – from the inception of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Seminary to the present day and beyond.

In contemplating this chain of love, it is crucial to recognize that we are all intricately linked, whether directly or indirectly, to Jesus. While chains may seem connected to one another, our ultimate connection is to Christ Himself. This direct connection signifies our personal relationship with Him, while the indirect connections represent the influence of His love through the community of believers.

Our gathering here in this Group Chat is a testament to our commitment to strengthening our love for God through the intercession of our Mother, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Our primary mission is to preserve our connection to Mary, who leads us ever closer to Jesus (Ad Jesum Per Mariam).

We extend our deepest appreciation to those among us who consistently set aside time from their busy schedules to pray the online Rosary every evening at 9 PM, uniting with fellow Batang Carmelos across generations. This collective prayer is central to our mission.

Yet, as we strive for sanctity, we must acknowledge that challenges and storms will inevitably arise. In these moments, our unity as brothers in prayer and spirit will be tested. Our greatest weapon in such times is HUMILITY – the mother of all virtues. Just as Mary, our Mother, exemplifies true humility, so too must we embrace this virtue. Humility breaks the chains of pride, indifference, apathy, and pessimism, strengthening the chain of love with its purity.

With Mary by our side, we can rest assured that the Vinculum Caritatis will continue to grow stronger, both now and in the future.

As we embark on this Lenten journey, may it be filled with profound meaning and transformation.

Blessings to you all,

Fr. Edwin O. Panergo
